Something Weird
Then suddenly, before we got out of the village, the guards stopped us. They told us that the lady from the house wanted to talk to us. We thought that she finally agreed with the deal that they made. But then, my father noticed more guards are coming in and from the distance, we saw the lady. To our surprise, it wasn't about the deal. She accused us of stealing her P25,000 worth cellphone. Since, she was the only one at the house, and we were the only strangers that left her home that day, she insists that we took the mobile. Well, she was accusing my uncle since he was the last one to enter and she didn't get to know him. We were outraged. She was shouting very loud and other people were looking. She was making a scandal out of a measly cellphone. My uncle took it calmly and told her "let's talk this over". "We don't have your cell. If you want you can search us. Or better yet, give us your cellphone number and we'll give it a ring so we can know if it's really inside the car or with one of us." But the lady was so angry, that talk wasn't much of a help. So, okay, my uncle told the guards that they escort us back to her home and wait for the Barangay Captain and then talk it over. And we did. While going there, she was still hollering. Saying to everyone that she comes up to that we stole her blasted mobile. Being the only person in the house and we were the last strangers to leave it. How humiliating. Upon arriving her home, she was escorted inside by a guard, while we stayed outside the house with the other guards.
Well, lo and behold, she came out with the mobile in her hand. It so happened that someone called her cell and she found out that it was still in her home. To avoid embarassment, she insisted that she left her phone in the foyer and found it in the bathroom (where my uncle took a leak). Sheesh... wierdo. A part of me wants to get angry, but I really can't blame her. Being alone in that house could give one paranoia to any stranger who enters her home. But then again, she was the one who welcomed them inside her house with open arms. My God... with the humiliation that we faced... she's lucky we didn't press charges.
My aunt said that we learned a valuable lesson. Upon checking the inside of a "for sale" house, we must know if the owner is all alone or not. If they're all alone, then check it some other time. She was, ofcourse, making fun of the moment to calm all of us down.
