What's Been Happening

I've been planning to write this blog yesterday but I only had time to make it today. Well, anyway, yesterday, Manny Paquiao lost to Erik Morales by a decision of 115-113. That's okay, I guess. You win some, you lose some. Though in Manny's shoes, it was like a win win situation. There was no title to defend and win or lose, he still gets to have $1.75 million. Sheesh... convert it to peso, that guy is probably one of the richest person here in the Philippines.. amounting to 94.5 million pesos!

Manny Paquiao is well respected here in the Philippines. He's considered a hero. So during the fight, it's like time stopped here in the Philippines. All Filipinos are stuck to the tv watching the fight. The problem with the feed here is that it's so delayed. The fight was already over and the broadcast is just starting. That's why alot of Filipinos got impatient and tried texting their friends in the US. So alot of people already knew the outcome before the fight even began. And to be perfectly honest, a lot of people were saddened by the loss. I, too, was saddened, but I accepted his fate. Not unlike some Filipinos who just can't take that Paquiao lost. Filipinos have a nasty habit of not accepting their losses.

Speaking of not accepting their losses, Manny Paquiao at first accepted his defeat but in the process, blamed certain factors for his defeat. One of which is the choice of gloves. He said that the gloves that he wore were not his standard gloves and were chosen by Erik Morales' camp. Huh.. why use it anyway when you know you're not used to it? Right? Then the nasty cut on his brow caused by the accidental head butt. That, I guess, I can accept. It was really dripping over his right eye. I just couldn't imagine his visibility when he was fighting Morales. There was also the medical check up before the fight. It was reported in the news that his medical certificate expired last February and he has to take another exam. And they said that Paquiao has a thing with needles and the loss of blood really drained alot from him. Well, excuses, excuses. That's where Filipinos are good at.

In fairness to Erik Morales, Erik happens to be the most experienced of the two. I guess it was experience that defeated Paquiao. Add up his height advantage and that's equivalent to defeat. Anyway, congratulations to Erik Morales for winning and Manny Paquiao for fighting a good fight. To Manny Paquiao, you'll always be a hero for the Filipino people!
