It's A Holiday

Today is a non-working holiday here in the Philippines. And for the first time, the government declared it so because today, August 21, is the death anniversary of one of the Philippines heroes, Ninoy Aquino. Now, I don't usually talk about politics in my blog. To be perfectly honest, for me, Philippine politics has gone to the dogs. It's nothing but a one big theatrical act. And a bad one at that. Anyway, in my opinion, the declaration of a non working holiday today reads politics all over it. As we Filipinos all know, President Arroyo and Former President Cory Aquino are not in good terms because of the "Hello Garci" controversy and how President Arroyo cheated on the last Presidential election. Mrs. Aquino asked Mrs. Arroyo to step down. But Mrs. Arroyo turned down the request. Thus prompting Mrs. Aquino to go to the opposition. If we all know our politics (and history), Mrs. Aquino is the widow of Ninoy Aquino.

Ahh... now. Are you getting the picture? By declaring today a non-working holiday to celebrate Ninoy Aquino's death anniversary, Mrs. Arroyo thinks that she can win back Mrs. Aquino's good side. But then again, it's just my opinion. Who knows what Mrs. Arroyo was thinking.
