Smurf Village BOMBED!

It's something that I didn't expect seeing. It's true, the Smurf Village has been bombed. This time, it's approved by the family of the late Smurf creator, Peyo, and it's for the benefit of the UNICEF anti-war campaign. It's purpose is for the rehabilitation of ex-child soldiers of Burundi.

The ad begins with the usual opening and opening song that we all know. Passing through the smurf village, seeing smurfs dancing, singing and frolicing about. Then from out of nowhere, bombs drop from the sky to the unsuspecting smurf village. It was chaos! Smurfs running for their lives, finding shelter. Mushroom houses blown into bits. In the end, we see a ravaged smurf village, a fallen Smurfette and a crying, tattered Baby Smurf. Then a message appears: "Don't let war affect the lives of children".

It was a harsh ad. It's so harsh that it had an adult rating and was only allowed to be aired by 9pm on Belgian TV. A spokesperson from UNICEF Belgium said that the ad was reallly made to shock people because conventional ads bearing images of injured children doesn't have that much impact anymore on viewers. It's true, though. Nowadays, unconventional means can really get through alot of people.

If you want to see the ad, you can download it here. It's very interesting.

Bounce!
